This is a story product from Colorado Equity Compass (CEC) Awardee, Kids on Bikes (KOB). KOB is a nonprofit organization working to increase the number of kids who regularly ride bicycles. The organization promotes the benefits of physical activity for children, by creating pathways for youth to earn their own bicycles and toolkits. Increasing daily activity and making bikes accessible is where we begin our focus and through a growing programmatic ecosystem we’ve been able to develop more opportunities for kids to ride more regularly, especially with other trusted adults from outside the home, is rising. Within Kids on Bikes’ earn-a-bike program, PE initiatives, and fee-based activities, participants reported that they rode more frequently and had more days in which they were physically active for more than 60 minutes.
