This is a story product from CEC Awardee Kids on Bikes (KOB). KOB is a nonprofit organization working to increase the number of kids who regularly ride bicycles. The organization promotes the benefits of physical activity for children, by creating pathways for youth to earn their own bicycles and toolkits. Just as with riding a bicycle — momentum is everything as we begin working with kids as young as possible to teach them why it’s so important to be physically active. Ultimately, so much of our focus comes down to just simply getting kids to be more active more often. Over 58% of El Paso County children get less than 60 minutes of physical activity daily- Children should have at least an hour of physical activity daily to help prevent obesity. _ Colorado Health Department_ Within Kids on Bikes’ earn-a-bike program, PE initiatives, and fee-based activities, participants reported that they rode more frequently and had more days in which they were physically active for more than 60 minutes.
