KGNU Community Radio: LYAC on Mental Health and Police Teen Relations

This is a story product from Colorado Equity Compass (CEC) Awardee, KGNU Community Radio. The organization has been a fixture in the Boulder community since 1978 as an independent, non-commercial entity. Alongside its diverse array of musical and news programming, it’s also an educational hub where, through programs like the Boulder County Media Gardens program it engages “bilingual Boulder County youth through the exploration of media, music, and culture in the digital and analog frontiers.” In this KGNU Media Gardens feature, Lafayette Youth Advisory Commission (LYAC) representatives and KGNU youth radio producers, Andrea Montiell and Isaiah Williams, interview Enihs Medrano and JD Mangat, both of whom were involved in LYAC prior to serving in the Lafayette City Council. While discussing mental health and police teen relations in Lafayette, the City Council members and LYAC leaders emphasize LYAC’s essential role in catalyzing change and elevating young voices in public service and social justice work.
