Focus Points: By the Numbers: A Look at the GES Community

This is a story product from Colorado Equity Compass (CEC) Awardee, Focus Points Family Resource Center. The Center serves thousands of diverse adults and many face some of the greatest barriers to educational attainment and economic stability in the state.

In Denver’s Globeville, Elyria and Swansea (GES) neighborhoods, residents make up a community with deep roots in Denver, in an area that has been long underserved. The neighborhoods are home to multigenerational homeowners and renters, mostly of Latin American descent. Some are recent immigrants, and some have been homeowners for generations. Many factors and conditions create barriers for the community members, including availability in housing, transportation, childcare, and healthy food, as well as environmental pollution and urban development. See the infographic for a look at some of these impacts. Focus Points Family Resource Center was created to partner with these residents and serve families’ needs by connecting them to the resources that help them succeed. The nonprofit offers family support services, community resources, education, and supports with economic inclusion – all while aiming to build better communities by strengthening families.
