Denver Food Rescue: Omelets with Shaniq

This story product comes from Colorado Equity Compass (CEC) awardee Denver Food Rescue (DFR). DFR works to fight food insecurity and provide access to fresh and healthy food to the community it serves. Over the past 6 months, the organization collected the unique stories of the families facing barriers and gaps in food access that highlight how food is part of everyone’s story and family connection. Here are a few words from DFR describing this story: “Shaniq, one of the participants of the Healthy Choice Food Box Program, tells us her unique story and experience through social context, a component of the social determinants of health, while making an omelet for us to enjoy. Social context including race and ethnicity affect individuals lived experience.
