Volunteering is a hands-on way to stay engaged in your community and support causes that you care about. There are many ways to participate, such as organizing events or working directly with an organization.

Helpful Steps

  1. Identify your cause What issues are you passionate about? What issues are affecting your community? What issues are your organizations working to address? Use the EDN or stories page to research and identify an issue that you want to engage in.

  2. Find opportunities Research organizations that best align with your interests, goals, and time. Visit the organization’s website to find local volunteer opportunities. From canvassing, making calls, or organizing events, there are opportunities for everyone.

  3. Reach out You might have to fill out an application, form, or send an email to express your interest in volunteering.

  4. Make reasonable commitments Identify a schedule that meets the needs of the organization you are volunteering for as well as your own needs.
