On the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation, a New School Aims to Preserve Culture, Language and Sense of Community

Kwiyagat Community Academy, Colorado’s first charter school on a Native Reservation, opened in 2021 on the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation. This school, currently open for grades K-3, blends academics with daily lessons that integrate Ute culture, traditions, and language. Kwiyagat Community Academy is rooted in the preservation of Ute identity and community strength.
